Taking Competency Management from the Shop Floor to the Top Floor

I am very honored to co-present at Mainstream Conference 2016 in Houston, Texas on May  24. I hope you can join us @mainstreamconf. Here's our abstract:

TransAlta is building a competency management framework to assess and develop competencies across all areas and levels of our operational business.

As part of our Ops Integrity management system in development, competency management is a key element to strengthen our commitment to Total Safety comprised of Process Safety + Occupational Health & Safety + Asset Management.

This presentation provides a practical view of the competency management framework design, strategic implementation of total safety competencies for leaders and tactical implementation of total safety competencies for employees.

Formalized competency management will help TransAlta achieve our vision to operate our business with ZERO unexpected equipment failures and ZERO EH&S incidents across our diverse, safe and reliable fleet of power generating facilities.

Join Marina Van Koughnett and Paul Daoust to learn the tactics necessary for you too, to achieve ZERO unexpected equipment failures and ZERO EH&S incidents.

Key Takeaways:

  • Clear expectations on leader and role-based competencies

  • Justification for value added formal and informal training and knowledge management

  • Key elements to successful management system implementation to deliver our safety and business objectives
